Why Keep a Bottle of Olive Oil in Your Bathroom?

Why Keep a Bottle of Olive Oil in Your Bathroom?

Most people store olive oil in the kitchen. Traditionally, it belonged in the bathroom too.

Long before modern skincare, olive oil was used to nourish and protect skin because it works with the body’s natural barrier.

Your skin’s outer layer is made of lipids that prevent water loss and protect against environmental stress. When this barrier is disrupted — from sun, wind, ageing, or over-cleansing — skin becomes dry and tight.

High-quality extra virgin olive oil is naturally rich in fatty acids that help seal moisture into the skin, while early-harvest oils contain polyphenols — plant compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Applied to slightly damp skin after showering, a few drops help support softness, resilience, and comfort, particularly on legs, arms, hands, and dry areas exposed to the elements.

Quality matters. Refined or old oils lose many beneficial compounds and may irritate sensitive skin. Those with eczema or acne-prone skin should patch test first.

This isn’t a beauty trend.
It’s a simple, functional ritual used for centuries — now supported by modern skin science.

Keep one bottle in the kitchen.
Keep one in the bathroom.
